Why this site exists
Search for an aurora tour in Tromsø and you get ranked lists that agree the tours are all much the same. They are not. The five listings compared here run from $59 to $351.93 for the same night under the same sky, and the money buys terms rather than aurora: a thermal suit that is handed over or rented, a group capped at eight or not capped at all, a fare you can cancel free 24 hours out or one that refunds nothing for any reason.
None of that is hidden. It is in the operators' own fine print, several clicks below the price. Putting it next to the price is the entire job of this site.
Where the facts come from
Tour prices, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, group caps and age limits are read off each operator's own listing on the date shown on the page, in US dollars, because that is the currency both booking platforms quote. Season dates, the auroral oval, viewing hours and winter temperatures are checked against Visit Tromsø and other published local sources, and dated where they appear. Traveller feedback reviewed: more than 13,400 verified reviews across the five listings.
Where an operator states something inconvenient in its own words — that the return is between midnight and 03:00, that you may be tired the next morning, that photographs often show the aurora stronger than the eye sees it — we quote it rather than smooth it over. Review quotes carry the reviewer's name, country and travel month exactly as published. We do not write testimonials.
What we do not do
We do not ride the chases, meet the guides, drive the routes or audit safety records. Judging whether a particular guide made the right call on a particular night takes someone in the vehicle, and that is a job for the company you book with.
We also do not take your booking. Every Check Availability button sends you to the platform the operator sells on, where the price, the terms and the cancellation window are theirs and are confirmed at checkout.
How the site pays for itself
Links to tours on this site are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays us a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going there directly.
That arrangement pays for the research and nothing else. It does not decide which tours appear, what order they sit in, or what we say about them. The cheapest chase on the homepage earns us the least, and it is the one that suits anyone who arrived in Tromsø with their own Arctic clothing.
Corrections
Prices move with the calendar, guarantees get rewritten and operators change vehicles between seasons. If something here is out of date, write to us and tell us what you found and when you were there. We would rather fix a number than defend it.
